Layout Update! Bringing on More Help
over 3 years ago – Sat, Jan 09, 2021 at 10:26:17 PM

Hey everyone! We wanted to take a second to let you in on what's going on behind the scenes right now. Layout still continues, but it should be wrapping up pretty soon, especially since we just brought in some additional help.

You all obviously know Charles Ferguson-Avery who has done the amazing art for all of Never Going Home. Charles is going to be stepping up to layout Bones in the Dust and help us put a bow on this project. We want to get this to print within the next few weeks so layout and proofing continues.

While this Charles is working on this, Knox, our layout coordinator is finishing the corrections from the second round of proofing for Tears in the Sea, and then diving into Blood on the Snow. We'll make sure that all of you have access to the DriveThruRPG files before we send these to print.

After all of this is done, we'll also be working to add bookmarks to all the core book PDFs so you'll also be seeing some updates to those electronic files. We're trying to stay busy, but most importantly we're trying to keep you all informed. No one wants to wrap these up more than we do, and we can't wait until you have them in your hands. Thanks for all your patience and support.

Please stay safe out there.

A Word or two on Production

TL;DR – After delays all three Dossiers manuscripts are now in layout.

With my work on the Campaign Dossiers now complete, I want to decompress a little and share with you all some of what it’s been like working on this project for more than a year. That’s right, I went back to check and my initial conversations with writers about creating more Never Going Home started 08/16/19, fresh off the successful debut of the game at GenCon. We pretty quickly developed the idea of offering books which expanded the focus beyond the initial set of books. Because we heard so many people at the booth ask us, “can you play this game as a campaign?”, we knew we wanted each Dossier to offer a set of connected Missions which told a big story. Those two starting points; Big stories set away from the Western Front were a great place to start, but I had no idea how hard it would be to achieve.

The first page of Tears in the Sea.

All our writers did a great job producing Missions on their given theme, but it still fell to me to make sure each Mission within each Dossier led from one to the next in a logical way. That’s what I’ve been working on all these months. To give one minor example from Blood on the Snow, our Russian Dossier: in Mission 1 a commanding officer can transfer the soldiers out of harm’s way and in Mission 2 a named general sends the Unit out on their next mission. I added a line to the earlier Mission so the officer tells the Unit who’s command he is transferring them to. I read and re-read the Missions searching for hooks and plot points like that to connect the Missions to each other. Individually, they might seem like minor points, but taken together, all these linkages make the Dossiers stronger. Initial readers say the separate materials present as a continuous whole. Hopefully you feel the same way when they get into your hands.

A hint of things to come.

Speaking of that, when will that be? Now that all the writing in done and editing is complete the manuscripts have moved on to layout. Charlie finished up all the art a while ago, so everything is ready to put together. That’s where in the process the Dossiers are now. When lockdown hit earlier this year I didn’t touch this project for about three months. I, like a lot of other people, found it very difficult to “be creative” at that time. Adding those lost months to the date of GenCon, when we originally planned to have the Dossiers ready, brings us up about to today. Which is why I’m giving you all this longer update. You deserve to know where we are at. The Dossiers aren’t ready yet, but they are getting close. Thank you, as always, for your support. None of this would be possible without the trust you put in us.

-Matthew

Layout Update and Project Launch
over 3 years ago – Tue, Oct 27, 2020 at 02:37:03 PM

We have some really cool news for you all today.

Campaign Book Layout

Hey everyone! We just wanted to touch base and give you a brief update as to where we stand right now. Things keep moving forward so we can get these to the printer. We had a couple personal matters which slightly delayed things, but all material is in with our layout coordinator, and Tears in the Sea has been laid out and proofed. Proofing changes have been submitted, and Bones in the Dust and Blood on the Snow are both in progress. We should have more information for you later this week, or this weekend.

We also received a photo of the production dice, and we wanted to share those with you. They look fantastic! We're so ready to wrap this up and get it out the door and into your hands. So much heart and soul has gone into this project, and we can't wait to hear stories of your players and their adventures!

Dark Places & Demogorgons 5e!!!

We also wanted to update you on the awesome project we launched today. In collaboration with Bloat Games, Wet Ink Games is proud to bring you Dark Places & Demogorgons 5e. It is NOW LIVE on Kickstarter.  In this standalone game, you play as teenagers from a small town where strange occurrences began popping up all around. The adults seem lost as to what to do, the police are as clueless as ever and aren’t helping. It’s up to you and your friends to figure out what’s going on and stop it from happening again!

In the 1980s, strange things happened everywhere.

Edits Complete. All Books headed to Layout!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Sep 24, 2020 at 05:35:14 PM

Hey everyone! Very brief update here. Expect a longer one in the near future with details about this and future projects.

We just wanted to let you know that all books have completed editing and the remaining books are headed to layout. Tears in the Sea had already completed this step, and we completed proofing on it this week, with all the corrections sent to our layout coordinator. This step should go pretty smoothly.

We've talked with our printer and they are ready and waiting for the documents and ready for a quick turnaround. We can't wait to get these to you, and will send out PDFs as soon as they're ready.

Keep an eye out for more information about this and our upcoming collaboration with Bloat Games for a new version of Dark Places & Demogorgons using the 5e rules set. Here is a taste of what's to come...

Quick Production Update!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Aug 12, 2020 at 09:43:51 PM

Hey everyone! We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy right now. Having a personal COVID scare, and dealing with other stresses due to the virus definitely messed up our plans and daily work routines, but we're continuing to move forward and stay positive.

Tears in the Sea: No change. This one is pretty much done. It has come back from layout and is in proofing. We'll be adding a couple small things for players.

Bones in the Dust: This in with readers and editor, and then off to layout.

Blood on the Snow: This in with readers and editor, and then off to layout.

Looking to fulfill in September, since we'll be sending these to the printer very soon! We can't wait to get them into your hands and to let you all in on some secrets about what's next for Never Going Home.
